The challenge

Bring live sport, scores, fixtures and editorial coverage to Android with the performance, stability and release quality expected of a high-profile BBC product.

The work

I led Android development for the BBC Sport app through its first public launch phase, helping turn the product into a robust mobile experience for following sport on the move. The app focused on fast access to scores, fixtures, results and editorial coverage, with the engineering bar expected of a high-profile BBC release.

My contribution

Led Android architecture, implementation and release delivery, working with Product and Design to turn the requirements into a clear native mobile experience.

Delivery detail

  • Led Android app development through launch, covering architecture, implementation, release quality and delivery.
  • Built a native mobile experience for following live sport, breaking news, fixtures and results on Android handsets.
  • Worked in a high-visibility product environment where performance, stability and clear user flows mattered from the first release.

The outcome

The first BBC Sport Android app reached public launch, giving audiences a native way to follow live sport and coverage on the move.
